The female ratio of the total number of the section chief class or higher position (including board member) is 6.9% (5.8% as of 2003).

Among high school graduates, 51.2% advanced to universities and other colleges etc., increased by 1.9 points from a year earlier and the highest since the survey started.

18.5% of them took jobs, increased by 0.5 points from a year earlier. 16 thousand people, 1.4% of them took temporary jobs, decreased by 3 thousand people, 0.2 points from a year earlier.

Among university graduates, 12.0% advanced to postgraduate colleges and others.

67.6% took jobs, increased by 3.9 points from a year earlier. 13 thousand people, 2.4% of them took temporary jobs, decreased by 3 thousand people, 0.6 points from a year earlier.

The number of employees newly hired was 6.99 million (7.48 million in the previous year), and that of employees separated was 7.04 million (7.56 million in the previous year). The total number of turnover workers was 14.04 million (15.04 million in the previous year). The rate of accession was 16.0% (17.4% in the previous year), and the rate of separation was 16.2% (17.5% in the previous year).

The Consumer Price Index was 100.1, unchanged from a year earlier. Omitting Fresh food, it was 100.0, a decrease of 0.1% from a year earlier. And in the Ward –areas of Tokyo in August, it was 100.4, a decrease of 0.2% from a year earlier. Omitting Fresh food, it was 100.1, unchanged from a year earlier.

The index of industrial production (seasonally adjusted) decreased by 0.4 % from the previous month. This index is expected to increase in August and decrease in September.

Family Income and Expenditure Survey (July)

The average monthly income for a worker’s household with 2 or more family members decreased by 3.3% from the same month the year before.

The unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) was 3.6%, decreased by 0.1 points from the previous month. That for men was 3.7%, decreased by 0.1 points from the previous month, and that for women was 3.3%, decreased by 0.2 points from the previous month.

The number of unemployed persons decreased by 340 thousand from a year earlier to 2.34 million.

The number of employees (seasonally adjusted) decreased by 180 thousand people from the previous month to 55.14 million.

The ratio of active job openings to applicants (seasonally adjusted) was 1.07, unchanged from the previous month.

Monthly Labour Survey (Preliminary Report in July)

Monday, September 3, released by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare

Total amount of cash earnings (for business establishments with 5 or more employees) decreased by 1.9% from a year earlier, 386,446 yen, and scheduled cash earnings decreased by 0.1% from a year earlier, 269,292yen. Special cash earnings decreased by 5.8% from a year earlier, 117,154 yen.

Non-scheduled hours worked in manufacturing (for business establishments with 5 or more employees, seasonally adjusted) increased by 1.2% from the previous month.
