Training of Officials and Others in Charge of Labor Affairs

The JILPT provides training for officials and others in charge of labor affairs at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, in accordance with their duties and administrative experience, based on a systematic training program.

Training for Supervising Personnel

The JILPT provides training targeting newly appointed directors, chiefs, and section heads at Labour Standards Inspection Offices and Public Employment Security Offices.

General Training (Basic/Advanced)

The JILPT provides basic training targeting new recruits, as well as advanced training targeting experienced officials in their fifth year of service.

Specialized Training

The JILPT provides training for officials at Labour Standards Inspection Offices and for those engaged in highly-specialized duties of job placement services.

Research and Development of Career Guidance Tools

The JILPT researches and develops psychological tests and tools for career guidance, and provides the products of its R&D to a wide audience. (Only available in Japanese)

Products of JILPT's Research and Development
  • Vocational aptitude test and vocational interest test
    Psychological tests for measuring vocational aptitude and vocational interest, which form the basis for career planning.

General Aptitude Test Battery (GATB) -- Target ages: Job seekers and students in their second year of junior high school and above (ages 13 to 44)
Vocational Readiness Test (VRT) -- Target ages: Junior high school students and high school students
Vocational Preference Inventory (VPI) -- Target ages: Job seekers, and university and junior college students

  • Computer Assisted Career Guidance System (CACGs)
    A guidance tool (CD-ROM) that allows users to evaluate their vocational aptitudes, search for vocational information, match their aptitudes with specific occupations, and do their own career planning on a computer, giving them a feel for the flow of career guidance.

Career Insight (for young people) -- Target ages: Young people aged from about 18 to 35 (students and job seekers)
Career Insight (for people in mid-career) -- Target ages: Job seekers with work experience aged 35 or over

  • Cards
    Card-based guidance tools that allow users to obtain vocational information and discover their vocational preferences easily, using the card sorting method*.

OHBY Cards -- By sorting 48 cards showing different occupations into categories based on such criteria as the user's inclination to select the card, users can discover their own interests and preferences and at the same time obtain the minimum information they should know about the vocation.
VRT Cards -- By sorting 54 cards showing different points from the Vocational Readiness Test related to vocational preference and confidence in job performance ability into categories based on personal interest and confidence, users can discover their preference and confidence levels.
