New Minister of Labour

photo    On July 4, Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori's second Cabinet took office to form a tripartite coalition government which includes his own Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), New Komeito and the New Conservative Party. Yoshio Yoshikawa (LDP) was appointed Minister of Labour. Born in 1931, Mr. Yoshikawa is a graduate of Waseda University's School of Political Science and Economics. After serving as a prefectural assembly member in Niigata Prefecture for five terms, he became an Upper House legislator in 1983. Among his other posts, he has served as parliamentary vice-minister of the Science and Technology Agency and the Ministry of Justice, and as chair of the Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
